Mackerel Sky - CD

from John Dew

'Mackerel Sky' is John Dew's debut album. This album explores the multiple layering of bagpipes and whistles inspired by the layering of the mackerel sky we so often see in Scotland.

A mackerel sky is an atmosphere of clouds, displaying an undulating, rippling pattern like scales. This is caused by high altitude atmospheric waves. The mackerel sky appears ahead of a warm front and is a reliable forecaster that the weather is about to change. When these high clouds progressively invade the sky, precipitation is likely. The Mackerel Sky is an indicator for tension and release in our atmosphere.
